WECAN PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT EVENT

In this workshop, early childhood teachers and teacher educators will gain a deeper understanding of the significance of a rich oral environment in a child's development during the first seven years, as well as specific activities that support orality as the critical foundation of future literacy. 

"If the journey towards literacy and the new capacities it unfolds is built on a strong foundation of orality, our children will embark on that journey with a well-established sense of living at the center of a sounding world in which their voices can contribute to the harmony in their community."- Holly Koteen Soule.

This live online event will take place on Monday and Tuesday, March 16 & 17, 2026, at 3:30 pm HT, 5:30 pm PT, 6:30 pm MT, 7:30 pm CT, and 8:30 pm ET.

  • Certificate of Attendance: Live participants will receive a certificate for 3 hours of attendance.
  • Recording Access: All who register will receive access to the recording. Please note: a professional development certificate of attendance is only available to those who attend the live presentation.

Holly Koteen-Soule was a Waldorf early childhood educator for 25 years and a founding faculty member of Sound Circle Center. She was a former member of the WECAN Board and currently serves on the WECAN Early Childhood Research Group. She is the author of Truer than True, a collection of fairy tales from around the world for Waldorf kindergarten teachers, and editor of Becoming and Belonging.
