FAMILY & CAREGIVER EVENT

How do we welcome our children into the world? How do we care for them during the tender journey of their first three years?

Becoming a parent transforms everything. With open hearts, we are called onto this profound journey of becoming—holding hopes and dreams that every child may be received with love and truly feel seen from the very beginning. How do we touch our children with our words and with our hands? How do we shape our gestures and rhythms to meet the child? In these earliest years, such attunement creates an inner foundation of trust and security.

This past summer, birth-to-three educators, doctors, and therapists gathered to reflect on how they might best accompany parents and young children as they enter earthly life—offering guidance, love, and understanding rooted in trust and care.

Debbie Laurin, Ph.D., and Adam Blanning, M.D., will share insights and reflections from this work with those entering parenthood and caregiving, or already navigating these paths.

Adam Blanning is a family doctor, collaborates regularly with Waldorf schools, and lectures internationally about child development. He is the author of Raising Sound Sleepers and Understanding Deeper Developmental Needs. Adam works as a co-leader of the Medical Section at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland, with Karin Michael and Marion Debus.

Debbie Laurin loves weaving mainstream research literature with Waldorf early childhood practices to create a picture that bridges both worlds and deepens our understanding of the young child. She is involved with an international group working towards Pikler Pedagogue certification. She is the co-director of the Waldorf Early Childhood Educator Training at the West Coast Institute in British Columbia, Canada.
Debbie's work advocates for the dignity of young children and their yearning for companionship. She hopes to influence adult practices that respect and support children's emerging sense of self. Debbie is nourished by her connections with anyone curious about young children, and she finds renewal and inspiration in the natural landscape of her BC surroundings.
