As we enter the next 100 years of Waldorf Early Childhood Education, WECAN would like to use this pivotal turning point to study and enliven the essentials of Waldorf Early Childhood.

Can we deepen our understanding of these nine essentials, test them, and explore how they live in our work with children today? What is alive? What needs to be awakened? What is shifting and changing in our work?

We will work with WECAN’s Essentials of Waldorf Early Childhood Education, written by Susan Howard.

Throughout the study, we will consider the following guiding questions together:

  • In each essential, what is living in my work with the children? What is not? 

  • How do we, as colleagues in our communities, work with the essentials?

  • What questions arise as we deepen our understanding of and live with each of these essentials?

Using the study material and New Adult Learning, we invite you to join Heather Church for a monthly study group.

Please bring a pencil, notebook, and pastels or colored pencils along with a copy of the Essentials of Waldorf Early Childhood Education to each class. 

We will meet once a month on Wednesdays at 3:00pm HST, 5:00pm PT, 6:00pm MT, 7:00pm CT, and 8:00pm ET. Together, we will work with each of the nine essentials, one per month. Each gathering will be 1.5 hours.

Registration Details:

Fee: We want everyone to be able to participate in the study; therefore, there is no fee. If you are able, we welcome a donation in support of WECAN’s work. You can donate here.

We will send the Zoom link to everyone who registers before the first session. We will use the same link for every session.

  • Do not opt out of receiving emails from us; otherwise, you will not receive the link.

  • If you are purchasing for a group, please send the email address for each person attending to Heather at hchurch@waldorfearlychildhood.org. This will ensure each attendee receives the link.

  • Registration closes 4 hours before the event on Wednesday, October 1, 2026

Heather Church has been involved in Waldorf early childhood education for more than twenty years as a parent, kindergarten teacher, mentor, and teacher educator. She completed her kindergarten teacher training at Sunbridge Institute and her Birth-to-Three Specialization at Sophia's Hearth. Heather has also pursued studies in Biography, New Adult Learning, and Leadership. She serves as the WECAN Director and is on the WECAN Board of Directors.
